The Internet of Things (IoT) in Real Estate

As many of you already know I am a computer geek and love new technology. I know the technology experts at our associations will be watching these new developments closely, but one really caught my eye and thought I would share to see what others think.

First of all, for those of you who aren’t familiar with IoT – here’s a link to an article by Meg White last year to maybe help explain it for you:

AVID RATINGS of Madison, WI launched an updated version of its home tour software at the International Builder’s Show in Las Vegas. Called GoTour Onsite, the new version uses beacon technology to enable house hunters to tour a model home on their mobile device. As they enter each room, customers can immediately access floor plans, options for customization, and videos that provide an in-depth information about hidden aspects of the home such as building materials and HVAC systems.

If this type of technology could be augmented into the MLS with data feeds from outside sources, this could add real value to the home tour experience, especially for luxury markets. There are so many possibilities for connecting devices already.

I can’t wait to see what other new ways to sell or list property comes up in the future.
